The work of commercial heating specialists Lord Combustion has been celebrated in a new video documenting how a local historic site and major tourist attraction is keeping thousands of visitors warm this winter.

The Black Country Living Museum, which brings to life the story of the Black Country’s role in shaping Britain’s industrial past, receives around 350,000 visitors on average year-round, as well as 48,000 school children – so heating is an important part of the visitor experience, as well the comfort of the museum’s many staff.

The site is spread across 26 acres and houses a wide variety of historic buildings, workshops and homes – many of which have been carefully relocated and restored – where traditional crafts, industry and daily life from past centuries are showcased.

Lord Combustion Services has been the museum’s heating and hot water partner for the past two years, managing the site’s heating and hot water systems and carrying out emergency maintenance.

With the unpredictable winter weather, large sites like the Black Country Living Museum face increased demand for heating and hot water, so it was essential they had a commercial partner they could trust.

“The heating on our site is very important,” said John Edwards, Maintenance Manager at the Black Country Living Museum. “We have a lot of people who work here as well as visitors who come during the middle of winter – and when you’re standing in a shop or a house for eight hours a day, it’s essential to have reliable central heating.

“When you do have issues, you want someone who can solve the problem straight away. The guys that come out on site from Lord Combustion have exceptional knowledge which makes things easier for us and allows us to be preventative, as well as reactive. They help us keep things moving.”

Lord Combustion, which has operated in the Black Country since 1982, are experts in the installation and maintenance of energy-efficient heating solutions, serving thousands of commercial sites throughout the West Midlands.

Alice Gibbins, Enterprise Team Manager at the Black Country Living Museum, added: “The museum is incredibly varied in terms of buildings. We have everything from a modern visitor centre to many translocated historic buildings – and the support of partners like Lord Combustion Services helps us to continue telling impactful stories to our visitors every day.”

Heritage landmarks, tourist attractions and leisure venues are amongst the sectors that Lord Combustion specialise in; the firm are also commercial heating partners to many of the region’s churches, leisure facilities and sporting venues, including Edgbaston Stadium.

Greg Jones, director at Lord Combustion, said: “We’re really proud to be working with the Black Country Living Museum; it’s a really interesting site with both old and new technologies. As Black Country engineering firm, we recognise the importance of our industrial past.”
