When others closed, we stayed open: how Lord kept the Midlands warm this Christmas
9 January 2026

While most commercial heating service providers closed their doors over the Christmas period, Lord Combustion Services remained fully operational, ensuring our clients stayed warm, safe and comfortable.

We kept our offices open on Christmas Eve and throughout the period between Christmas and New Year, so that our dedicated team could provide a reduced but fully effective presence, backed by 24-hour reactive emergency call-out services.

Over the festive period, we received calls not only from our existing commercial clients but also from sites typically serviced by other providers. With many of these providers relying on a single on-call engineer, some organizations found themselves without support when unexpected issues arose.

While our reactive services are restricted to existing clients to maintain our high standards, these calls highlighted the reliability and peace of mind our service provides.

Over the Christmas break, our team attended a total 38 boiler breakdowns, including 30 during daytime hours and 8 out-of-hours emergencies.

The nature of the calls ranged from properties with no heating or hot water (28 incidents) to serious pipework leaks or bursts (4 incidents).

Impressively, 36 of these jobs were completed with a first-time fix, while the remaining issues were made safe, with temporary solutions put in place where necessary.

Here are a few of the things we dealt with over Christmas:

A health centre with a leak

Water was leaking from a ceiling on the second floor. Our engineers quickly located the leak, isolated the affected circuit, made it safe and carried out the repair. The remaining pipework circuits were returned to full operation.

A residential care home with a faulty valve

A complete loss of hot water was traced to a faulty motorized control valve on the hot water generators. Our engineer replaced the component from van stock, restoring hot water to the facility promptly.

A sheltered housing scheme with no heat

Following a fire alarm activation, residents were left without heating. Investigation revealed the site control system had failed to enable the boilers. Our team reset and adjusted the system, reinstating heating and remaining on-site to ensure comfort temperatures and safety circuits were fully operational.

Staying open over Christmas and maintaining our responsive, hands-on service is one of the reasons that so many of our clients trust us during the busiest – and sometimes most challenging – periods of the year.

Our commitment over the festive period demonstrates our focus on reliability, safety and ensuring that essential heating and hot water services never go offline when they are needed most.
